Background

Bare Bones is a family-run, Ohio-based company most famous for their protein-packed instant bone broths made with grass-fed beef and organic chicken. Their mission is to reimagine food as a fun, healthy, and delicious source of nourishment for better meals, better energy, and better living.

The Job

Cartograph took over Bare Bones’ Amazon operations in October 2025. While sales were already strong on Amazon, profitability wasn’t where the Bare Bones team wanted it. They also believed they hadn’t even come close to their sales ceiling. We listened to their concerns, performed a thorough audit of their existing Amazon strategy, and jumped into action to get them where they wanted to be.

Cartograph Approach

Implemented a focused, intentional Amazon ad strategy:

When we partnered with Bare Bones, their ad spend was fairly minimal due to a lack of confidence in ROI. After doing our research, we discovered their existing setup made it difficult to optimize or identify what was driving profitable revenue and what wasn’t. So we:

1. Rebuilt their ads to eliminate cannibalization.

2. Sorted their existing keywords into themes.

3. Identified that a large portion of ad sales were coming from a handful of search terms.

4. Broke those high-performers into their own campaigns with dedicated budgets.

5. Focused the rest of the spend on high-volume, non-branded category keywords like “bone broth powder” (85% of total ad spend went toward category terms).

This approach improved ad performance transparency and gave us the ability to efficiently optimize campaigns, which in turn gave the Bare Bones team the confidence to invest more into ads.

Result: ROAS from Amazon ad placements increased from 250% to 430% within two months.

Consolidated Product Detail Pages:

By bringing the different flavors of key product lines into a single PDP, we were able to effectively combine the organic strength of the individual pages into a single, SEO-supercharged page.

This not only improved organic visibility, it also exposed shoppers to the full range of options and improved the end-user shopping experience.

Result: The top-line category Best Sellers Rank (BSR) jumped from ~Rank 750 to ~Rank 175.

Helped break external price matching to take back the Buy Box:

Bare Bones was losing the Buy Box on a hero SKU due to aggressive pricing by an external vendor. To combat this, Cartograph suggested the brand launch an updated, Amazon exclusive version of the SKU.

Result: This SKU is projected to be worth about $1.5 million in sales in 2026 alone.

"Really appreciate you all as partners for listening and applying our core business goal - profitability - to all your decision-making. Looking forward to a kick-ass year."
